Q. Do I need experience or is there a minimum level of fitness required?
A. Absolutely not. Our workouts and exercises can be scaled to accommodate any and all skill levels. We train everyone from elite level athletes to individuals that haven’t hit a gym in 20-plus years. Before you attend your first class, you will be taught the 9 fundamentals movements of CrossFit and establish where you are at with each skill. Once this is done, sky is the limit for you as long as you listen and put into practice what we teach.
Q. How do I start?
A. Contact Sean at 612-866-4411 to set up a time to come visit us or just stop in during one of our classes. We would love to meet you. If you like what you see (or have heard), we will get you scheduled immediately for one of our elements sessions.
Q. What’s involved in the Elements classes?
A. The 3-day Elements classes go over the 9 fundamental movements of CrossFit, which include the basic air squat, front squat, overhead squat, shoulder press, push press, push jerk, deadlift, sumo-deadlift high-pull and medicine ball clean. We also cover a variety of other movements common to CrossFit training and will give you information about nutrition, mobility, our community and the rules of the gym. Most importantly, the sessions are a time for us to get to know you and determine your strengths and weaknesses. **Important to note that unless you are a transfer from another CF gym, the elements classes ARE a requirement and you will not be allowed to participate in classes until all 3 sessions are complete.**
Q. After Elements, then what?
A. Once the sessions have ended, you should then register yourself on MindBody. MindBody is a requirement that allows you to pay your monthly dues online, register daily for classes & upcoming seminars and view our online store. Once Elements are done and MindBody registration is complete, you can then begin attending classes.
Q. What is a WOD?
A. WOD stands for Workout Of the Day. Each night prior, the WOD will be posted on the CrossFit Templar website and you can chose to either look to see what you’ll be doing or go into the class “surprised.”
Q. What is a typical class like?
A. The first 15-20 minutes are dedicated to stretching, mobility and an instructor designed warm-up to get your muscles loose and to practice CrossFit skills. Once that’s done, we then go over the WOD and discuss standards of movements and clarify any questions that one might have. You will then hear your coach say “3…2..1…GO” and then the WOD begins. Typically the WODs last anywhere from 5-25 minutes depending on how fast you can push yourself. After the WOD is complete, we clean up the gym and then you’re free to leave or stay and practice skills. It is highly encouraged that EVERYONE stay to cheer on others as they finish the WOD.
Q. Do you offer discounted membership to active military, police officers or firefighters?
A. Yes we do. We offer a 10% to all active military, police officers and fire fighters as long as you have an id card or badge.
Q. Do you have showers?
A. We do not, but our personality makes up for that!
Q. Can I just come to CrossFit Templar and work out on my own?
A. No. As you will find out, we are not your typical gym. We offer classes where people work out under trainer supervision because it yields better, safer, and faster results than having people simply use the facility by themselves.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact Sean directly. We look forward to hearing from you!
